Thrifty Finds Friday #11

Well hello there. I have some goodies to share with you from a large yard sale I went to at a local church.

I went looking for some baby items - exersaucer, high chair, baby gates etc.... and found not one baby item!

However, I did find some other items that were great deals.

I got two different faux christmas garland for........get this.......$1 each. YUP.

I just bought one last December. This was the first Christmas in this house and I wanted one for my staircase. And I spent over $30 for a lighted one!

I just spent $2 on what is pictured above! Score!

Every item in the picture below was 50 cents. The Santa hat was bought by the kids, because I guess we only have one currently and now they won't have to share!

I plan on painting the oval frame and use it possibly in the baby room around an initial.

The basket, I am not sure about. But I may paint it and dip the bottom in a different color.

I bought a brand new pack of 30 Thank You cards. The Thank You is embossed, but it did not show in the photo, so I wrote it in. I like to write notes, and like to write thank you cards, so they will be used!

Thrifty Finds Friday #9

Happy Fall Y'all!

It has finally felt like fall here in the south, even if only for a day or two! But I will take it! I can't wait for this cool weather to last. I'm over the summer (like I am every year...in JULY!...)

I found several treasures I want to share with you on this Thrifty Finds Friday. First up is a ceramic pitcher and cork board I found. This cork board is the exact size as one we already own, so I will paint the trim to match and hang together for a larger board in the boy's room.

The pitcher was $4 and is a beautiful shape. There are no chips anywhere.

I spied this little table at a Thrift store this week and it is the perfect size for my bedroom. I have been looking for a little table to replace my round bedside table. I want storage and was looking for a small dresser. This only has one drawer, but I think I can find baskets for the shelves, and will paint it and it will be awesome! The best part is, it is solid wood and very sturdy (it is very...very...heavy...) and it was only 14.99!

Thrifty Finds Friday #8

Hey Y'all! I'm back with another Thrifty Finds Friday. Like I said for the last one, a month ago, I am trying for every month (after a long hiatus due to moving!). Anyways, here are my finds....

Storage Tower with drawers and baskets. This was from Craigslist and was $35. I thought it was a very fair price for all that storage. I am going to paint it white (it is currently cream) and put it in the baby's room. It will probably get additional paint once we have the baby and know if we are adding pink or blue to the nursery!

Chairs for kitchen table. This was another Craigslist find. I have been searching for months for SIX chairs for our kitchen table. We want to use the cane back chairs in the dining room with my grandparents mahogany table. We had wooden chairs in the past with our kitchen table (which was in our dining room) before we refinished it - and I loved the smaller size and the wooden seats. However, finding SIX affordable chairs is not easy. The add was for 6 chairs and a table for $130. That is a great price, but I was not interested in a table. I asked if they would sell the chairs only. Initially the seller did not want to break up the set, but then asked how much I would pay for the chairs. Now, they looked in decent shape, only needing to be cleaned (and re-painted and stained, of course), so I offered $100 if they were all sturdy. That sounds like a lot - but that is $16.66 per chair people. Do you know how expensive chairs are? And not all of them are well made. These wooden seats are contoured and I love that. Also, one seat has "Scotts" written on it. That is one of the seller's sons name. Isn't that awesome?! I hate to cover it up........ Here they are before.

If it ever gets under 80% humidity here, maybe, just maybe, I will feel like painting these items! Seriously, it has been an awful summer and it is slowing me from DIYing! I will share when I make these beautiful again.

Spray painted Chandy

My last Thrifty Finds Friday, I shared with you a chandelier I bought at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $39.99. Here is a photo, and here is the post if you are interested in my other finds.

So, that had to change.......

I bought Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and it took me a week to spray because it is so humid here and we had thunderstorms rolling in every day, sometimes more than once a day. Make sure when you spray paint that you do it slowly and sparingly, otherwise you WILL get drips in your paint.

You can hardly see in that picture, but I took off the candle part that covers the wires for the receptacle that holds the bulb. I covered it in painters tape to keep it clean and sprayed the covers Heirloom White.

I think that I may need to adjust it to hang lower, which means that I will need to rewire it...... I also need some shades. The photos show it with my Fall/ Halloween shades that are on for now. The shades I want are below and from Ballard Designs:

They are $18 each and I need 6 (and $108 is too much for me to spend on shades), so I will wait for a sale!!!

Here is the finished product. Remember my dining room is not at all finished.... I need to either wallpaper, or stencil, add wainscot and find something for the one bare wall remaining. Oh, and maybe add some crown molding too.

Here is a before, of our ugly builders grade chandelier. We chose not to upgrade the lighting because I wanted to get my own, so we have been slowly changing out fixtures.

Isn't the after much better (even without those cool drum shades on it?) Not bad for less than $45.

What do you think? Does it need to be lower? The ceilings are 9 feet for reference.

Thrifty Finds Friday # 6

Oh my goodness!! It has been over a month since my last post. I have not even read any blogs or been on the computer for the last 2 weeks. I have been drowning in boxes and unpacking.

We closed on our house less than 2 weeks ago and it has been so busy. And my muscles are so sore - I have not even worked out in that same time frame and that is so unusual for me!

I will start sharing house things once I get all the boxes unpacked........even though today I feel like I will never get it done....

I have TWO items to share today:

I was at a local thrift shop a few weeks ago and found these beautiful pillows. They are very clean and the colors are perfect for my home. The backs of these are different (one is a green velvet and the other a peach cotton) and need to be changed. I am going to take them apart, clean them, and remake them into fluffier pillows with a cream back.

The best part about these little pillows: $4 each

Similar items are in Pottery Barn and many other places. Search "crewel" or "embroidered" pillows and you can see the huge selection (and how high the cost is).

I am happy with my 'new' pillows. At least they will look new when I am done with them!

Thrifty Finds Friday #4

Happy Friday Y'all! Did everyone have a great time last night trick or treating? I love seeing all the kids dressed up and having a great time.

I have one item to share with you today. If you have read my blog before, maybe you remember the post about my yard sale brass light, that I did a little changing to. You can read about my light in this post and below is a photo of the light.



Well, I found a bigger, better brass light! I found it at a local thrift store and scored it for 50% off for a grant total of..... $15. Whooo Hooo! This baby is so pretty and has so many details that I love. I plan to paint it just like my other light and hang it centered above my new island.

Below are photos of my new light. It is not cleaned and not spray painted yet. I hope this time I can keep the glass in the light!!! It is going to look so pretty hanging over me new island!








Hopefully that will be a project that can be done quickly after moving in. Just a little spray paint and some connecting of wires. I am having the builder put a light outlet centered above the island, so it will be ready for install!!!

Thrifty Finds Friday #3

Well, maybe that title is a stretch. Both of my "finds" were at regular stores (vs. thrift stores or yard sales). However, both were on sale and discounted and I think I got a good deal. Does that work?!

My first find is from Tuesday Mornings. I have not been in this store for at least a year, but there is one close to where we are temporarily living and it happens to be near the Dollar Store, which I love. So I went to the dollar store for bubble wrap and then walked to Tuesday Mornings (and had to pass the Fresh Market to get there, how cruel is that? But so proud of myself that I was not sucked in the doors!). I found two items at TM. This awesome jute rug (see photo below). It was so awesome that I just carried it around until I got a carriage, even though I was not sure if I was going to get it or not. Then another shopper looked at it, commented how cool it was, and asked where I found it. I did not tell her that it was the only one that I saw! Yikes.... maybe they had some more in the back....... Anyways, it is 3 ft x 5 ft and is perfect. It may go in front of the slider to the patio, or the front door. Not sure yet.

I am just sure that at $29 I LOVE IT!!!!!






I also found this adorable little spoon rest at TM for $2.99. I can't pass up anything lobstery or new englandly, (those are words by the way) because it is in my blood.



My next TF was from JC Penney . They were having a sale on curtains and I had a 20% off coupon! I am planning on using these in our Master Bedroom, and using a Pottery Barn comforter. I bought three and they were $28 per panel. Of course, I can not (and have never) bought curtains and hung them without fiddling with, or changing them some. These are no exception. I bought ONE curtain panel from PB that matches the duvet cover I bought (also from PB) and I will cut it up - Yes, I said CUT it up! I want the fabric to use to add to my JCP curtains. And use on the small windows where I will most likely use both fabrics to make roman shades. And will have some left over for pillows.........I miss my sewing machine.....guess where it is? Yup, in a POD.

Here to can see the print of the PB fabric better. It is so pretty. I love that is had red and rust in it because I have a lot of items with that color, but overall it is light. It also has yellow/gold, blue and green. Love, love, love it. I have big plans for new items in our Master Bedroom.

Thrifty Finds Friday #2

Hope you all have a great week. I had a great week and have a few treasures to share with you all. This week they all came from Goodwill, 2 different store locations though. I am finding all these treasures because I will need use them when we move in to the new house. But for now we have NO storage and Mr. Thrifty will get mad if I keep bringing these things home. So lets all hope that the house gets going soon. That is a story for another day.....

Here are my finds:

First up. Stunning silver tray.



This tray is BEAUTIFUL people. I know that I can use it for serving and parties. I also may use it in my bathroom on the counter to hold perfume and apothecary jars of necessities.

Second find; a cracker and pick set.



My parents have lots of these and we use them every summer for when I am home and request that I have a big lobster dinner! You can't eat lobster without crackers and picks, unless the lobsters have recently molted. I would love to have found more, but this was it. My oldest son loves crab legs and the cracker I currently have does not work as good as these do, and I do not have a pick.

Third find is a set of 3 mixing bowls from Williams Sonoma.





These bowls are ceramic and flawless. I do way to much lots baking, and I am always cooking, so I will use these a lot. They are an off white color. They will be used daily at my home.

Thrifty Finds Friday

Well hello there. Did you think I left you?

Coming back from vacation is no easy task! I kid...... kinda......

Well we are back and getting ready to start school Monday! Eek!

I have a few items I found at 3 different thrift stores that I stopped by yesterday after work. I am going to try to do this 1 - 2 Fridays a month. Anyways, here are my finds and how much they cost me. I will try to show you the items and then the cost as well as what my plans are for them.





How awesome is that baskety thingy? I was so excited to see it and take it home. And it is big. I love the color and the texture and want it on the wall. This is what I picture doing with it when we move to our new house.

I am sure some of you are wondering about the NASTY dried and silk flowers in this thing. I think they are nasty too. But they will be gone! I may hang this outside with a battery candle in it, or inside with a real little nest and some eggs, or a ceramic bird. Not sure yet, but I do know that for $.50 it is worth a shot!



These handles are UH.MAY.ZING!!!! They are from the ReStore and that was all I could find. I am not sure what I will use them for, but they are the real deal. They are solid and heavy. I will most likely spray paint them like the cup pulls in my old kitchen, and use them in my new laundry room. I will have lots of projects in there. We opted to not pay $500 for cabinets in our laundry room, and instead I will put them in myself. Then I can have space for a bar for hanging clothes, a rack for drying and it will be a totally custom job. AND I will be able to use all my new hardware that I just spent a fortune on. He he.

Can't wait to show you these in the new house!
