BRASS lamp you say? Well, this lamp was very brass and very heavy and very detailed and PERFECT! Just look at the shape it has. For $10 I snatched it up knowing exactly where I would put it. But first it needed some work.....
I took pictures as I took it apart so that I could look at them when I became confused trying to put it back together. I get confused at times....
That last picture really shows the details in the metal.
I actually did not put the glass back in. It was beautiful but I could not get it to go back in securely. I gave up in frustration and my hubby tried multiple times. He did better then me, but I was not happy with it. It would be hanging in our kitchen over the island and I could picture it crashing down on us or the kids. So I have the glass safely packed in bubble wrap for if I ever change my mind!
My kitchen ceiling had a horrible large fluorescent light that was "upgraded" with a large oak moulding frame around it. I could not wait to get it down but had no idea what was behind it, but I did not care! I just wanted it gone.
What I did NOT get a picture of what what I found when I pulled the ugly fluorescent light down. Thankfully it was one hole with wires sticking through it. No box or anything. Just a hole. Perfect! I can fix that. And another small hole on the other end that I could easily hide.
I was going to swag my lantern over the island from an existing light box that had a cover on it when we moved in. However, that alone was not enough light for the kitchen and I needed to replace the wattage from the fluorescent light. I found a center mount light with 4 positional LED bulbs which I purchased from Home Depot.
I really don't want to talk about moving the wires from the hole to a new spot with a new light box (it is totally escaping me what they are really called). This is because we live in the South and I was in the attic A LOT and probably lost at least 5 pounds in sweat.....
A few more pictures. Here is a little peek at the tall pantry cabinet I added trim to and installed and the island. I will have more pictures when I post about painting my kitchen cabinets white and adding trim to a kitchen island. Now back to my bathroom vanity project.....
Look at the shadows on the ceiling. I LOVE this in the evening.
Project Cost:
$10 for light
$4 for spray paint (just a guess and rounding up)
$3 (max) for light box for ceiling
$0 hook for swag - I had already
TOTAL FOR NEW LIGHT:
$17
Have a great day!
